Abstract
First paragraph: This is an important year for the Scottish Educational Research Association (SERA) as we are celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2024, having made a remarkable journey of dedication and impact in the field of education. This is also the 30th anniversary of the Salamanca Statement which was a watershed moment for inclusive education. The Salamanca message that inclusive schools are ¡®the most effective means of combating discriminatory attitudes, creating welcoming communities, building an inclusive society and achieving education for all¡¯ (UNESCO, 1994, p. ix) has been reiterated through several UNESCO projects and reports, including Sustainable Development Goal 4, which emphasises that every learner matters and matters equally (UNESCO, 2017; Ainscow, 2024).
