Abstract
This exhibition traces the lines of influence between Jane Austen and her contemporaries, such as Frances Burney, Maria Edgeworth, and Ann Radcliffe, alongside lesser-known talents such as Jane West and Susan Ferrier. As a Chawton House Visiting Fellow, I contributed to this exhibition in the display 'Drama in the Drawing Room,' which highlights the role of theatre in Austen¡¯s world, tracing how drama moved stage to page, as well as from public theatres to private parlours.
